Admiral Mike Mullen is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest-ranking officer in the U.S. Armed Forces and the President’s principal military advisor. As such, he presides over all meetings and coordinates the efforts of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), advising the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council and the Homeland Security Council. On Tuesday, June 14th he sat down with Charlie Rose to discuss National Security challenges facing the country.
Fascinating talk through and through, however one topic and quote from Admiral Mullen caught my attention. “I believe there are two extesential threats to the United States, Nuclear Weapons and Cyber. If you march a cyber attack into our infrastructure or financial institutions. If you can attack our financial systems – it will literally bring us to our knees. If you can create false data in the banking systems its a national security threat.” Serious business.
